Frequently asked questions:
| |
- Can you use the lathe manually after conversion?
- ANSWER: No, once you convert to CNC, you will have to uninstall the kit to restore manual use.
- What are the thread pitches of the ballscrew and leadscrew?
- ANSWER: Ballscrew is 5 TPI, .200" pitch. X leadscrew is 20 TPI .05 pitch
- Do you have a spindle encoder kit for tracking the RPM/Threading?
- ANSWER: No. There are several kits/solutions for reading the spindle speed on the market already, we did not want to incrase cost and reinvent the wheel.
- What is the travel?
- ANSWER: Travel is unchanged from stock. There is a mod to increase X travel though, which we will be documenting.
- How much backlash does the kit have?
- ANSWER: The X axis has zero, or less than .001". The Z axis has approximatly .004/.008 stock. By adding a helical coupling and preloaded ballnut, this can be reduced to .001" or less.
- Do I have modify my lathe?
- ANSWER: Yes, please see the installation instructions.
- What is the maximum traverse rate?
- ANSWER: This is entirely dependant on your stepper motor/driver. 150" IPM on the Z axis should be very easy to achieve. probably 50-75 IPM on the X is reasonable.
- I received my kit, and am not happy with it. Can I return it?
- ANSWER: Yes, just ship it back to us within 30 days, in good condition, and will issue a refund (minus shipping)
- My ballscrew makes a "crunchy" sound when it rotates, is this normal?
- ANSWER: Yes, especially with preloaded ballnuts. sa the ballnut "seats" in from use, it should gradually get quieter.
- Do you stock a wrench/socket for tightening the locknuts?
- ANSWER: No, we use pliers or a flat blade screwdriver. The proper socket can be purchased from the locknut manufacturer, Whittet Higgens. It is $105.
