55/12/10: I will be updating these instructions with photo attachments over the next week. So some links to illustration photos may not work yet.

Here are the basic installation instructions for installing the lathe 7x12 series lathe kit. These will be updated with video, and much more detail in the coming days.

Step1

Remove the Tailstock. Remove the Cross slide. Unbolt the apron from the saddle. Remove the apron. You will need to remove the end support fo the the stock lead screw to remove the apron. You should now have nothing but the saddle on the machine.

Step2
This step requires access to a Micro-Mill or larger benchtop mill. If you do not have access to a small milling machine, you can use a die. grinder, however we did not test this, and it would be fair amount of grinding. If you would like ue to do the machining for you, please email us. You will need to mill approximatly .03 to .04 from the bottom of the large slot in the cross slide. This is the area where the leadnut travels. Illustration photos to be added here.... The reason for doing this is to make clearance for the Thompson Leadnut under the saddle.
Step3 Once the slot in the saddle has been machined deeper, re-install the saddle. Re-install the cross slide. Loosen the gib screw on the cross slide for now so that it slide easily by hand. Test fit the motor mounts to your lathe. If you have access to a set of C-clamps to hole the mounts in place while you align the kit, this is a good time to make use of them.
Step4 With the X axis lined up on the rear of the saddle, (held in place by a friend or C-clamps) use a center punch to mark the two mounting hole locations. This is made easier if you partially dissasemble the X motor mount, to allow you better access to the right mounting hole. Now drill and tap to two locations for 6mm screws. Once tapped, install the X mount to the lathe, but only snug. check for alignment with the two hole in the cross slide, and intall the two 4mm cap screws that secure the leadnut to the underside of the cross slide.
Step5 With the X mount installed, run the saddle all the way back. Turn the Z ballscrew by hand so that the Z mount is touching the X mount. Hold/clamp the Z motor plate to the end of the bed and align with the X motor mount. Make sure the ballscrew with straight as possible. When you are satisfied with the alignment, mark two hole locations diagonally from each other, on the Z motor plate. Drill and tap these two location for 6mm cap screws. Install and snug up the two 6mm cap screws. (there are four mounting holes in the Z motor plate, but only use two for now, until we verify good alignment. You can add the other two later)
Step6 At this point you are ready to re-assemble the X mount, and install your stepper motors for testing. Perform all testing with gibs screws loose, and mounting screws just snug. Adjust as needed.
Step7 SPECIAL NOTE: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE TWO 4MM SCREWS THAT SECURE THE X LEADNUT TO THE UNDER SIDE OF THE CROSS SLIDE. OVER TIGHTENING MAY STRIP THE THREADS.

Thank you for your patience while I add additional photos, and videos to this installation guide.
